A sofa is only as honest as the frame you cannot see. This page describes what we build with, and why we chose it over the cheaper alternative.

- [ABRASION RATING TO CONFIRM] Cover abrasion testTested for wear and colour fastness.

A sofa is only as honest as the frame you cannot see. This page describes what we build with, and why.
Frames
Kiln-dried hardwood, corner-blocked and doweled, with joints glued and screwed rather than stapled. Frames are engineered to be sat on daily for years, not to hit a price point. It is also why a frame can be opened and repaired instead of thrown away.
Suspension and seat
High-resilience foam over a sprung base, layered so the seat gives on contact and recovers when you stand. Density and layering are specified per model, and the figures for each piece are in the specification table on its product page.
Covers
Dense boucle, textured flatweaves and brushed cottons, chosen for how they age rather than how they photograph. Composition, rub count and cleaning code are listed per fabric in the specification table on each product page, and on the card that comes with your samples.
Wood and metal
Solid oak and walnut with a low-sheen oil finish, and powder-coated steel where a piece needs a thinner line than wood allows.
What it costs, and why it does not cost more
A short collection, direct relationships with a small number of workshops and no showroom network to fund. The savings are structural. They are not taken out of the frame, the foam or the seam.
See it in your own light
Colour reads differently at home. Order fabric samples before you commit.
Care instructions per material are in the care guide.
Why a hardwood frame rather than plywood?
Kiln-dried hardwood, corner-blocked, holds a joint under repeated load for decades. Plywood is lighter and cheaper and does not. It is the single part of a sofa that cannot be repaired once it fails.
Will the seat soften over time?
Yes, and it should. High-resilience foam loses a small amount of its initial firmness in the first months and then holds. That is settling, not sagging.
Where are the pieces made?
[MANUFACTURING LOCATIONS TO CONFIRM] We work directly with our production partners rather than through a trading intermediary.
Can I specify a cover that is not listed?
For contract projects, sometimes. Write to us with the reference and we will tell you whether it can be applied to the piece you have in mind.
